Education for the
Nomad Child.
Securing and transforming the future of nomad communities in Samburu, Kenya through quality education.
Education Is the Only
Tool That Can Free a Nation
Laramatak Child Initiative seeks to promote the education of pastoralist children, who often find it challenging to attend school due to the long distances to learning centres, lack of motivation, and lack of awareness of the importance of education. We collaborate with the local county government of Samburu and other stakeholders to contribute to SDG No. 4 — Quality Education.
Due to the effects of climate change, pastoralism has become an unsustainable form of livelihood. LCI believes that education is the only way to ensure the safety and security of these communities and to combat early marriage, school dropout, menstrual shame, and the marginalisation of women.

Our Programs
School Development Programme
We established a school in Wamba, Samburu East, serving boys and girls from nomadic backgrounds. With over 30 students enrolled since launch, the school provides a conducive learning environment, qualified staff, and top-tier educational resources.
Children Feeding Program
The school provides a nutritious meal at lunchtime every school day. Recognising that effective learning is tied to well-nourished students, this program addresses hunger and creates a conducive environment where children can focus on their studies.
Scholarship Programme
LCI provides scholarship support to enable pastoralist children to access quality education beyond the primary level, opening doors to secondary school and beyond for the most deserving students.
Girls Empowerment
LCI is committed to instilling in young girls the knowledge that they are capable of achieving anything. We raise awareness on early marriages, menstrual shame, and the rights of women so that no girl is left behind.

The school supports learning by providing a daily nutritious lunch, helping students stay focused and reducing the impact of hunger on their education.

Laramatak Child Initiative promotes education for pastoralist children to overcome barriers to schooling, empower communities, and address social and environmental challenges through awareness and learning.

The initiative aims to support pastoralist children’s education by addressing barriers like distance, low motivation, and limited awareness of its importance.
